Article about the latest rage in wilderness areas like Ruidoso... treasure hunting with your GPS, called Geocaching...
Have you heard of Geocaching? Outdoor enthusiasts are getting into geocaching. It's a high tech treasure hunt activity that's done with a handheld GPS. It's a worldwide phenomenon that is gaining quickly in popularity. Visitors who geocache will research and download cache locations to their GPS unit and make it one of their preferred activities while hiking, mountain biking, camping or driving on their Ruidoso vacation. There are several geocache units in Ruidoso and surrounding areas for our visitors to find. Once a cache is found, the finder logs info in a logbook, takes a treasure from the cache and leaves one of similar value. Our caches are loaded with Ruidoso pins and stickers. The finder then logs his or her find on http://www.geocaching.com/. The geocaching project is just one of the many goals to come out of the new EcoTourism committee. Find out more at http://www.geocaching.com/. For more information please call Steve at 1-877-784-3676 or 575-257-7395.
